How To Prepare Before A Facial

preparing your skin before getting a facial

So you might be wondering, what should I do and not do before I get a facial? In this blog, we are going to explain how to best prepare so you can get the most optimal results!

1.) Limit Sun Exposure- Too much exposure to the sun can cause the skin to be sensitive to exfoliating treatments so best to avoid excess sun. Wear hats and apply sunscreen every day to help protect your skin.

2.) Hydrate Your Skin- Having moisturized skin and drinking plenty of water helps the skin reach a healthier state and will be less reactive to exfoliating treatments. Your Esthetician will do a skin analysis to determine what treatment will be best and fit your needs.

3.) Avoid Exfoliating Products- Discontinue any use of Retinol, Acne Creams, AHA’s & BHA’s, or physical exfoliants. This can sensitize the skin and is best to discontinue use 1-2 weeks prior to your facial. Reach out to your Esthetician if you are unsure of a product you have been using to better determine if it needs to be discontinued temporarily.

4.) Communicate With Your Esthetician- Let your Esthetician know if there have been any medical changes. Some medical concerns can have an impact on the skin as well as some medications. Allergies are another thing to let your professional know so they can be avoided in treatment.

5.) Sunburn- If you are sunburned please reschedule the appointment, no one should receive any skin treatment while experiencing a sunburn.

6.) Waxing- Wait for 72 hrs after any facial waxing before receiving a facial. Some facial waxing such as a full face wax will need a longer wait time, up to 1 week or longer.

7.) Makeup- You can come to your facial with a clean face, if not no worries! Your Esthetician can remove your makeup for you.

Being prepared is a simple way to help achieve great results and communication is essential as part of your treatment plan when it comes to facials. If you are unsure or have any questions please reach out to your Esthetician to help you get ready for your appointment!
