You may have heard the buzzword Dermaplaning, but what is it? How does it work? In this blog we will discuss everything you need to know about dermaplaning and if it would be an excellent addition to your skincare routine.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a tool used to exfoliate the skin and remove the vellus hair also known as “peach fuzz” from the face with a medical-grade scalpel.

Here at Skin Detail, your Esthetician will use a 10D blade that is also known as the butterknife blade that glides effortlessly on the skin and is gentle enough for the most sensitive skin.

What are the benefits of Dermaplaning?

· Gentle exfoliation for all skin types

· Vellus ‘peach fuzz’ hair is removed

· Increased penetration and absorption of active ingredients in a treatment session as well as your home care products

· Can be combined with other facial treatments such as peels, enzymes, and LED light therapy

· Healthier and more youthful-looking skin

· Amazingly smooth skin, and makes makeup glide on beautifully

· Skin photographs beautifully for photo sessions or social events

· Great for preventative aging care

Who is a good candidate for dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is great for the majority of skin types. Especially someone who is experiencing texture, dryness, dull complexion, accumulation of vellus hair, and aging skin.

Can I get dermaplaning if I have acne?

Some individuals can still receive dermaplaning with mild acne which can actually benefit the skin by exfoliating the pores and eliminating dead skin cell build up causing clogging in the skin. Dermaplaning should be avoided with Acne that is aggressive and is causing a lot of redness and irritation to the skin. There are other great treatments for clients that are experiencing more aggressive forms of acne such as the Recovery Facial at Skin Detail.

What should I do before and after my Dermaplane treatment?

To get the best experience out of dermaplaning here are some great tips prior to your appointment

· Discontinue use of Retinol, AHA/BHA, Salicylic, Benzol Peroxide, or anything that is exfoliating and drying to the skin 1 week prior

· Hydrate and moisturize the skin

· Reduce the amount of sun exposure and wear sunscreen

Aftercare is very important following your dermaplaning appointment here is what to do after your appointment

· Be gentle to your skin for the next few days following your appointment no exfoliating or use of Retinol, AHA/BHA, or acne products for 1 week

· Moisturize the skin and wear SPF

· Clean makeup brushes

· Change pillowcases

Here at Skin Detail your Esthetician will do an analysis of your skin and advise on any homecare recommendations to lead you on your individual skincare journey!
